AAP legislators met Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC) Executive Director Vikas Kumar on Monday and said they will be compelled to protest if metro fares are hiked.

Delhi Metro fares are set to increase for a second time this year from October 10.

The last increase was in May when the minimum fare went up from Rs 8 to Rs 10 and the maximum from Rs 30 to Rs 50.

The delegation also submitted a memorandum urging the DMRC not to increase the fares and added that the proposed hike will be against the Fare Fixation Committee’s recommendation that “there shall be a gap of one year between two fare hikes”.

Aam Aadmi Party legislator Sanjeev Jha, who was part of the delegation, said that increasing metro fares will increase number of vehicles on the road.

Jha added that DMRC should look at other options to increase revenue and added that the Metro ridership had fallen after the fares were increased in May.
