Will not apply Ayushman Yojana, govt hospitals, medical facilities are for all, says Delhi Health Minister

We will provide health facility to 100% population here. We won’t pick and choose. That isn’t needed in Delhi. Both the poor and the rich will receive treatment. It’s the responsibility of the Delhi government to provide treatment to all residents of Delhi, said Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain, on Tuesday, while criticizing central government’s Ayushman Bharat Yojana, said that the Delhi Government will not implement the same in the national capital.

Jain said that that the ruling BJP needs to implement the Ayushman Bharat Yojana in a much effective, efficient and better way.

“It has been implemented in UP, Haryana but why are patients being sent from there (UP and Haryana) to here (Delhi)? What will come out of it if it’s implemented in Delhi? The population of Delhi is 2 crore and only 10 Lakh people will benefit from Ayushman Bharat Yojana. We won’t do this.

“We will provide health facility to 100% population here. We won’t pick and choose. That isn’t needed in Delhi. Both the poor and the rich will receive treatment. It’s the responsibility of the Delhi government to provide treatment to all residents of Delhi,” ANI quoted Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain as saying.

Jain further said, “First, Central government needs to provide the benefits of Ayushman Bharat Yojana in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Around 70 per cent of patients are coming here from Uttar Pradesh. Modi ji did nothing there. We will not differentiate between rich and poor. We will not allow this yojana as government hospitals and medical check-ups are for all.

“They just implement such policies on papers. Ground reality is different. If the policy was implemented, people from Uttar Pradesh would have been treated in their state,” added the Delhi Health Minister.

Union Minister Harsh Vardhan, who on Monday took charge of the Health Ministry, had said that he will write to the Chief Ministers of the five states where the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) scheme has not been implemented so far.

“Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha and Delhi have not implemented the scheme under which Rs 5 lakh annual medical cover is provided to each family belonging to vulnerable sections for treatment,” he had told the media.
