A couple from West Bengal has been arrested for allegedly trafficking girls from Delhi and pushing them into bar dancing after luring them on the pretext of providing good jobs. The couple has been identified as Subir Das, 21 and Simran, 21 (name changed).

Vijay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police West Delhi, said, “Subir Das owns a dance bar at Cosmos Mall in Siliguri and he deputed Simran to bring girls from NCR region. Das used to pay Rs 10,000 per girl in addition to travel and other expenses.”

The DCP said on 10 October a complaint was reported at Inderpuri police station about two girls being forcibly taken to Siliguri instead of Jaipur where they had been promised jobs.

“The complainant mentioned that her daughter and her niece were promised that they will be employed as wedding welcome girls. But they landed in Siliguri and were forced into bar dancing,” said Kumar.

One of the victims informed her family about their condition and sought immediate help. A first information report was registered at Inderpuri police station under relevant sections and investigation was taken up.

A team under the supervision of SP Tyagi, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mayapuri, was constituted to rescue the girls and nab the accused. The team reached Siliguri and gathered important clues from the local intelligence. Following a tipoff, raids were conducted at Subir Das’ house near Green Valley apartment on Rajpath road in Siliguri. Both the girls were successfully rescued and Subir Das and Simran were arrested.

“After the recovery both the girls were counseled during which they stated that the accused Simran offered them jobs at wedding ceremonies in Jaipur, Rajasthan. But later she took them to Siliguri, West Bengal, and handed them over to Subir Das. He forced them to work as bar dancers,” said DCP.

The girls’ Aadhaar cards and all other proof of identity were forcibly taken away from them.
The arrested couple was charged under Sections 370 (Buying or disposing of any person as a slave), 120-B (Punishment of criminal conspiracy) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, said police.
