Already an inspiration for one and all, Muskan Thakur, a visually-impaired singer, would now inspire the electorate of the Himachal Pradesh to exercise their franchise in upcoming assembly elections in the state.

Muskan of Chirgaon in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh has been selected as the ‘Youth Icon’ for upcoming assembly elections in the state.

HP University officials confirmed the selection of Muskan as ‘Youth Icon’ for assembly elections and said a letter in this regard has been received from the Election Commission on Saturday.

Muskan would be honoured by Chief Election Commissioner Achal Kumar Jyoti at a function in Shimla on 25 September.

It is for the first time that a blind person has been selected as icon for elections in the state and the move is likely to inspire many physically-challenged persons to excel in their respective fields.

It is worthwhile to mention here that Muskan is presently pursuing MA (Music) from HP University.

As a singer, Muskan has bagged several awards, including at the HP University’s Youth Festival and 2nd place in the ‘Voice of Himalaya’ competition.

Belonging to a poor family, she defied all odds to pursue her dreams of getting higher education and she completed her graduation from RKMV College, Shimla. She has already made a name for herself in singing and has performed at various singing events across the state.
