After remaining neglected for more than a decade, the reconstruction work of the damaged main sewer line at Vikaspuri in west Delhi was inaugurated by Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering, the minister stated that the people of J.J. Colony had been demanding the installation of a proper sewer line for over a decade.
“Due to the inaction of the previous government, residents faced immense hardship in monsoon due to clogged sewers and stagnant water. Taking serious note of their struggle and persistent demand, the reconstruction of the main sewer line at A-Block Park has now commenced,” he said.
Given the current rainy season, the Minister also instructed officials of the Delhi Jal Board and other concerned departments to ensure that no waterlogging occurs in the locality, enabling timely prevention of water- and vector-borne illnesses such as dengue, malaria, and chikungunya.
Dr. Singh reiterated that the government is fully committed to providing all essential civic amenities to the people of J.J. Colony — from clean drinking water to robust sewer systems. He informed that, alongside water supply and drainage upgrades, several developmental works, including the renovation of neglected parks are already underway in the area.
Stating that the previous government’s failures had stalled all major development projects across Delhi, the minister emphasized that swift and coordinated action by departments is crucial to mitigate sewer-related and waterlogging issues during monsoon.
“Our government is committed to making Delhi the developed capital of a developed India,” said Delhi Health Minister.
Later in the day, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh also held a Jan Samvad (public interaction) session at his camp office in Vikaspuri, where he met with local residents. Citizens shared their concerns and suggestions, including demands related to road repairs, low water pressure, park maintenance, and sewer cleaning.
The Minister immediately instructed concerned officials to take prompt action and assured the public that anyone facing issues can approach him directly or visit the local camp office.
“As the representative of Vikaspuri, resolving people’s issues remains my topmost priority,” added Dr. Singh.
