Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday cast his vote in Gorakhpur, in the first phase of local body elections, months after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stormed to power in the state.

CM Yogi posted a tweet along with some pictures of him casting his ballot in a government school in Gorakhpur.

The civic polls, being held in three phases, will be the first test of Yogi Adityanath as the chief minister of the state which gave the BJP a massive mandate in the Assembly polls held in March.

Hopeful of sweeping the polls, CM Yogi had on November 12 released the party manifesto at the BJP headquarters in Lucknow wherein he promised free WiFi at prominent public places and ‘pink toilets’ for women.

As per schedule, 24 districts have gone to polls on Wednesday, 25 districts will vote on November 26, and the remaining 26 districts on November 29.

The counting of votes for the 16 nagar nigams, 118 nagar palika parishads and 438 nagar panchyats will take place on December 1.

A total of 3.32 crore voters will be eligible to cast their ballots at 36,269 polling booths and 11,389 polling stations.
