The Delhi Police on Tuesday detained two Africans for residing illegally here after the expiry of their visas, officials said.
The police said that the accused men, identified as Tata Billy Manjong (32), from Cameroon, and Kester (25), a Nigerian national, were picked up from the Sagarpur area.
According to officials, the action was part of a special drive to trace and monitor foreigners residing illegally in the district.
“Acting on a tipoff, a police team zeroed in on the two suspects who were roaming in Sagarpur,” said Amit Goel, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest).
“When they were asked for valid documents, they failed to produce any visas,” the officer added,
During questioning, the men admitted to having overstayed their visas and had been living in Delhi and Noida, working odd housekeeping jobs with the help of friends, police said.
Manjong had first arrived in India in 2021, while Kester came in 2023. Both failed to return after the expiry of their visas.
Investigators also checked their mobile phones and social media contacts, through which copies of their passports were obtained from their acquaintances in Mumbai. Following verification, the police completed the necessary legal formalities.
“A deportation process has been initiated with the help of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO),” the officer mentioned in his statement.
Goel stated, “Our teams are continuously monitoring and acting against foreign nationals residing without valid documents.”
