Three people were arrested in a case of brutal murder-cum-robbery, that took place near Badarpur bus stand on Saturday, with the murder weapon, the Delhi Police said on Tuesday.
The police arrested the accused within 72 hours of the crime and recovered the murder weapon, a Samsung mobile phone, and a scooty used in the crime.
Briefing the media about the crime at a press conference, Aishwarya Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Police (South-West), said, “The incident came to light on Saturday at around 5:51 in the morning, when the police received information about an unconscious male found bleeding near Badarpur Bus Stand.”
“The victim, Makbul Akaram, 25, was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he was declared brought dead by the attending doctors,” Addl. CP Sharma added to her statement.
An FIR was registered at the police station and an investigation was taken up by the officers.
A multi-unit joint team was formed to investigate the case which analysed over 1,000 CCTV cameras across Delhi and Haryana for the scooty’s route eventually leading to Arpan Vihar, where the suspects’ faces were captured on camera.
Based on this intel, the police identified and apprehended one of the scooty riders, Mohsin, an employee at an OYO hotel in Haryana’s Basantpur.
During thorough questioning, he admitted to the crime and told the officers about his two other accomplices, Deepak and Himanshu, who were later arrested by the cops from Molarband Village, Delhi.
During the interrogation of the trio, Mohsin said he had been employed at the hotel for the past eight months. Over time, he developed a friendship with two regular visitors—Himanshu and Deepak—both known drug users.
In due course of time, the three had reportedly been living together at the hotel for the past 2-3 days, where they consumed drugs and conspired to commit a robbery.
One of the accused said, “On the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, the trio set out on Noor’s scooty towards Badarpur. Noor was at the wheel, with Deepak seated in the middle and Himanshu riding pillion.”
“Upon reaching the Badarpur Bus Terminal, they noticed a man deeply engrossed in his mobile phone. Seizing the right moment, Noor took a U-turn and stopped the scooty near the victim,” he continued in his statement.
The senior officer said, in her statement, “Deepak and Himanshu approached the man, snatched his phone, and in a shocking escalation, Himanshu stabbed the victim twice —allegedly on the directions of Deepak. The trio fled the spot immediately after the attack.”
We have also confiscated a scooty used in the crime, a knife, a Samsung mobile phone robbed from the deceased, and clothes worn by the trio during the commission of the crime.
A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the BNS against the trio, and further investigation into this case has been taken up, the officer stated.
