Union information and broadcasting and textile minister Smriti Irani said on Friday that the Trinamul Congress has murdered democracy which is evident from the widespread violence in the state over filing of nomination papers for the panchayat poll.

After participating in a celebration programme on the occasion of the BJP’s foundation day, she said that killing of BJP’s karyakarta (leader) Ajit Murmu clearly reveals the actual law and order condition of the state.

The state BJP on Friday also organised a sit-in demonstration near Gandhi statue at Mayo Road area to protest against the continuing violence over filing of nomination for the panchayat polls. BJP’s national secretary Rahul Sinha, state BJP panchayat convener Mukul Roy along with other party leaders organised the sit in demonstration in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue.

The party also demanded adequate deployment of central paramilitary forces for free and fair panchayat polls. Later addressing a Press conference at the state BJP headquarters, Mr Roy said that the Trinamul Congress has turned the panchayat elections into a farce in the state.

“The TMC is not allowing others to file nominations. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee led state government destroyed the democracy. State election commission must allow the filing of nomination paper in SEC office as the district magistrate offices and SDO offices are surrounded by the TMC backed goons.

State BJP on Friday launched the protest following widespread violence across the state over filing of nominations. There have been several incidents of clashes between the BJP and the TMC supporters in various parts of the state.
Panchayat polls will be held in the state in the first week of May.

Mr Roy said that entire country is witnessing that how democracy is being raped in the West Bengal.

“Miscreants are openly brandishing guns pointing at BJP candidates, when they are visiting BDO offices to file nomination papers. However BJP workers braved the attack of the TMC goons filing nomination paper,” he said.

Mr Sinha demanded that the submission date for the nomination paper filing must be extended beyond 9 April.
