Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari, in a press conference on Friday, alleged that Aam Aadmi Party had completely failed to take concrete steps to protect traders from sealing drive in Delhi.

The BJP leader appealed to AAP and the Congress to end the politics of confrontation and come together and appeal to the monitoring committee to seek a permanent resolution.

Tiwari claimed that traders continued to suffer from the onslaught of sealing drive for months on end but AAP remained a mute spectator.

He alleged, ” for the past three months the Delhi government has allowed the situation in Delhi go berserk, inflicting immense pain on the people of Delhi. The AAP government refused to budge or take any pro-active measure, including approaching the Monitoring Committee, intervening in the Supreme Court or notifying 351 roads. Instead, it chose to play politics over a matter of public interest.”

On the contrary, he claimed his party did everything in its capacity to provide relief to the traders. “With the power vested with the DDA under Section 11A of the DDA Act, we ensured the passage of amendments in the Master Plan 2021, which came as a huge respite to the agitating traders, who had been knocking the door of the Delhi government but to no avail. Due to this timely intervention, it halted sealing drive over large parts of Delhi and provided respite to majority of traders,” said Tiwari.

He also raised finger on previous UPA government, saying that the Supreme Court ordered sealing due to glaring loopholes in the Master Plan 2021 which was prepared during the UPA tenure in 2007. Through the amendments passed by the DDA, BJP tried to fill the gaping holes left by the previous UPA government, he claimed.

Tiwari further stated that the monitoring committee set up by the Supreme Court was at the forefront of the sealing issue. He then blamed collective political voice for enabling the monitoring committee to act without any scientific methodology.
