Delhi Police (IANS)

The Delhi Police on Thursday arrested three members of the Kala Jathedi gang while they were allegedly trying to extort money from a restaurant owner at Janakpuri, in West Delhi, an official said.

The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh (37), Gurpreet alias Manni (30), and Gurjeet Singh (35), a senior police officer said.

According to the officer, Gurpreet Singh with a history of crime is involved in over 18 criminal cases, including snatching, robbery, attempted murder, and extortion, while Manni has more than four cases registered against his name. Both were recently released on bail for similar offences.

“A case was registered at the Hari Nagar police station on September 18 after an eatery owner in Janakpuri received threats, following which a team was constituted to trace the accused,” the officer said.

During investigation, the team analysed the CCTV footage of the vicinity and gathered inputs, after which the officers conducted a raid at multiple locations and got their hands on the trio, he said.

“Two country-made pistols, two live cartridges, two scooters, and the visiting card of the targeted shop owner were seized from the accused,” the officer mentioned in his statement.

Further inquiry into this matter is underway to dismantle the gang’s wider network, he added.
