Special Task Force (STF) have arrested three criminals involved in the loot and murder of a bride at the National Highway 58 last week. The gang was also involved in a similar incident on the highway in February.

Raids are being conducted to arrest the rest of their aides who worked together to commit loot on the highway.

Working on a tip-off, the STF with crime branch and Daurala police on Tuesday arrested Akshay and Dheeraj, both residents of Modinagar and another aide from Jani area of Meerut for committing loot and murder of a newly wedded bride.

“These criminals used to target people commuting on highways,” said Alok Priyadarshi, SP STF Meerut-Agra region, adding that they were also involved in a similar incident of loot on the highway in February.

Soon the rest of their three aides would also be nabbed, averred the SP.
Shehjeb, resident of Mimrana road of Muzzaffarnagar, was returning with his newly married wife Mehwish Parveen in a well decorated new Swift car on 27 April when Akshay, Dheeraj and his aides stopped them near village Mataur of Daurala thana area at NH 58. They looted jewellery, cash and car and shot the bride when she resisted.

This bullet injury became fatal and she died when taken to the hospital.
During interrogation, the arrested criminals told the police that they only wanted to commit loot but fired on the bride in a haste as she started screaming. They came to know that it has turned big through the media reports the next day which claimed murder of the bride.

According to the police sources, the criminals were tipped off by some person known to the family and were following them from a hotel at the highway where the family along with the groom had stopped for dinner.
