The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh police has arrested three people for the murder of a bride and loot near Daurala on the National Highway 58 last week. The gang was also involved in a similar loot on the highway in February, police said.
Raids are being conducted to arrest other accomplices of the accused.
Working on a tip-off, STF, crime branch and Daurala police personnel on Tuesday arrested Akshay and Dheeraj, both residents of Modinagar, and another person from Jani area of Meerut, for committing loot and murder of a bride on April 27.
“The gang used to target people commuting on highways,” said Alok Priyadarshi, SP STF Meerut-Agra region, adding that they were also involved in a similar incident of loot on the highway here in the month of February this year.  “Their three accomplices would also be nabbed soon,”  he said.
After getting married, Shehjeb, a resident of Mimrana road of Muzaffarnagar, was returning with his wife Mehwish Parveen in a Maruti Swift car on April 27 when Akshay, Dheeraj and his aides allegedly stopped them near Mataur village of Daurala thana area on the NH 58. They looted jewellery, cash and car and shot the bride dead when she resisted their move.
During their interrogation, the accused told the police that they only wanted to commit loot but fired on the bride in haste as she started screaming.
According to the police sources, the accused were tipped by some person known to the victim family and were following them from a hotel on the highway where the family had stopped for dinner.
