A teenager was shot and injured after three men allegedly opened fire at him on a foot overbridge in northwest Delhi’s Azadpur area, the Delhi Police said on Tuesday.

The victim, Aryan, a 17-year-old boy from Jahangirpuri, was rushed to the trauma centre in Civil Lines with two gunshot wounds.

“We were alerted about the situation at 10:14 pm on Monday by the hospital authorities that a teenager has been shot in the area,” a senior officer said.

According to the teenager’s mother, Neetu, an eyewitness to the attack, said, “I was standing near the foot overbridge opposite the main gate of a colony in Azadpur along with my son, Ranjeeta and Nikhil, when the accused came and shot him.”

Later, Neetu identified the three alleged assailants as Laddu, Shamsher and Shanu, all residents of Jahangirpuri, the officer mentioned.

The victim was immediately taken to the hospital with the help of bystanders.

A crime team, accompanied by the forensic experts, were later called to inspect the crime scene and collected evidence from the spot, the officer said.

With the statement of Neetu, a case has been registered against the trio under the relevant section of the BNS at Adarsh Nagar police station, and a manhunt has been launched to trace the accused, the police officer said.

The police are yet to determine the exact cause behind the shooting. However, an investigation into the case is ongoing by the officers.
