The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has penalised two of its officials for failing to maintain cleanliness in their assigned areas.
Acting on the directions of Deputy Commissioner of Shahdara South Zone, Badal Kumar, the MCD has ordered a one-day salary deduction of the Sanitation Supervisor and Sanitation Inspector of Ward No. 195, Kalyanpuri, for dereliction of duty.
The disciplinary action follows the discovery of a large heap of garbage near the Mother Dairy booth on Khichripur Road, despite repeated instructions to ensure cleanliness across all wards.
In recent meetings chaired by Deputy Commissioner Kumar, sanitation staff had been categorically directed to complete cleaning operations in their respective wards before 9 am each day.
However, the inspection revealed that garbage collection in Kalyanpuri remained incomplete, prompting the Deputy Commissioner to take immediate action.
Taking serious note of the lapse, Kumar said that negligence in maintaining sanitation standards will not be tolerated.
He warned that strict disciplinary measures would be taken against any official found responsible for similar complaints in the future.
“The MCD is committed to keeping the city clean and beautiful. Officers entrusted with sanitation duties must perform their responsibilities with complete diligence and dedication,” Kumar said, adding that the administration will continue surprise inspections to monitor compliance.
The MCD’s Shahdara South Zone has recently intensified efforts to improve sanitation standards, directing all ward-level staff to ensure roads, markets, and residential areas remain garbage-free in the early hours of the day.
The civic body has also appealed to residents to cooperate by disposing of waste responsibly and reporting unclean spots through official channels.
With this latest action, the MCD has sent out a clear message that accountability and timely performance will be strictly enforced as part of its ongoing cleanliness drive across the capital.
