STFs to take on organised drug trade in Himachal

The Himachal Pradesh Police on Wednesday constituted special task forces (STF) for all districts which would take on organised drug syndicates in the state.

The police have also announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for any information on recovery of huge contraband of narcotic substances (8 kg and above). In addition, police officials who make substantial recoveries of drugs would also be rewarded for outstanding work.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Southern Range, Asif Jalal said the Director General of Police, SR Mardi, has constituted STFs for each district and they would be headed by a gazetted officer.
“The STF would launch a special drive against organised gangs and individuals involved in possession, sale, purchase, transportation, cultivation, etc., of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances from 27 January for 100 days,” he said.

Jalal said the STFs of all districts would report their progress on a daily basis to SP Narcotics, CID Shimla, who will keep Mardi apprised of the progress. The STF would also keep the concerned SP and IG or DIG Range informed, he said.
