Sri Sri Ravi Shankar solemnised a marriage in a train on the way to Lucknow from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.

According to reports, the Art of Living founder chanted mantras as the couple, identified as Jyotsna and Sachin, exchanged garlands. This is probably the first time that anyone in India took wedding vows in a train.

Keeping the marriage a simple ceremony, the carriage in which the couple was travelling with their respective family members was decorated with flowers.

Following the marriage, the spiritual guru commented on the extravagance displayed in marriage ceremonies across India and said that common people are often overburdened with the loans for marriages.

“This marriage should send a message of simplicity in villages across the country,” the spiritual guru said.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar blessed the couple.

In January this year, Pope Francis had officiated a wedding between two flight attendants in an impromptu ceremony on his papal plane while they were flying over Chile. It was the first time that a Pope married a couple on a plane.
