Squad to monitor quality of work in govt departments

Himachal Pradesh government would soon set up a quality check squad in Chief Minister’s office to ensure quality of works, being undertaken by various government departments.

After a meeting senior government officials, CM Jai Ram Thakur said the squad would keep a check on works being carried out by various departments that include PWD, IPH, HPSEB, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Tourism and Urban Development.

“The squad would be an independent party which will be hired by the government through private consultants,” he said, adding the modalities for the project would be finalised soon.

He said the squad would be headed by additional principal secretary to CM and it would conduct random checks on works being executed by the various departments.

“The decision of the government is in accordance with assurances made in last budget speech. This will ensure quality work in various developmental projects being implemented in the state and help in reducing complaints ralted to quality,” he said.

Thakur maintained that the government was committed to provide responsive and accountable governance. He added, “third party inspection will also ensure quality of roads and bridges besides other infrastructures. The squad will carry out surprise inspections of construction works.”
