UP: Six killed in explosion in Bijnore chemical factory

Six people were killed and eight others were left severely injured in a blast in a tanker of methane gas in a chemical factory in Bijnore on Wednesday. Three others are stated to be missing.

According to SP Bijnore Umesh Kumar Singh, the rescue operation, which began shortly after the blast, is currently going on.

“We have also deployed enough force at the spot to control any situation,” he said.

The incident was reported on Wednesday morning at Mohit Petro chemical factory on Nagina road of Bijnore. The blast in the methane gas tank took place when eight labourers were repairing it. The sudden blast in the gas tank created panic in the area and people rushed to the spot.

Six of the labourers died on the spot, while eight people are seriously injured, SP said adding that some people standing outside the factory were also affected.

The injured were rushed to the district hospital where they are being treated.

Meanwhile, a large number of local residents have gathered near the factory and are demanding stern action against the owners .According to them, the workers were asked to repair the tank without vacating it which ultimately claimed the innocent lives.
