A special investigation team (SIT) has been constituted to investigate the case in which an 18-year-old woman has alleged that she was raped by BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his brothers in Unnao, and also the custodial death of the victim’s father.

ADG (Law and Order) Anand Kumar told the media on Tuesday that the “SIT will go into the entire gamut of issues involved in the incident.”

He added that so far clean chit had not been given to anyone in the matter.

Earlier today, a special team of the Uttar Pradesh Police arrested Atul Singh, the brother of the rape-accused BJP MLA, in Unnao.

He was reportedly arrested from Kanpur based on the orders of Director General of Police (DGP) O.P. Singh.

The victim’s father had died on Monday in police custody in Unnao, prompting her to charge that he was killed inside jail at the behest of the lawmaker.

According to media reports, the deceased Pappu Singh was being forced to withdraw the case against the MLA.

Atul Singh along with his aides had allegedly assaulted victim’s father last week because of which he had received grave injuries.

Deceased Pappu Singh had complained of abdominal pain on Sunday following which he was taken to the Unnao district hospital.

The incident triggered a political storm and public outrage in the state, forcing the police to suspended six officials, including a station house officer (SHO) and five constables.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also asked Additional Director General of Police (Lucknow) Rajeev Krishna to investigate the matter and has promised stern action against all perpetrators.
