SIR for voter list commence in Delhi on June 20, final ER to be published on October 7

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi Ashok Kumar on Wednesday announced that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral list of the national capital will commence on June 20 with the training of the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and printing of the enumeration forms, which will go on untill June 29.

As per the schedule of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the BLOs will embark on a house-to-house enumeration from June 30 to July 29.

Every existing elector, whose name exists in the electoral roll, will be provided with an enumeration form (in duplicate) by the BLOs. After filling up the form, a copy of it will have to be returned to the BLO.

The ECI official stated that there is going to be a provision for electors to fill in the enumeration form online during the SIR exercise.

Notably, for public convenience, the voter list of the last SIR, which was held in the year 2002, has been uploaded on CEO’s website, while those, who have moved in Delhi from other states after 2002, can locate their names on ECI’s portal.

In case the name of the present voter is not found on the electoral roll of the last SIR, his or her parents’ or grandparents’ names appears in the list. They will then have to provide their details in the enumeration form.

According to the state election office, the rationalization of the polling stations is also going to take place during the period of SIR, and the limit of 1500 voter per polling station has been reduced now to 1200 voters per polling station by the ECI for ensuring ease of the electors during voting.

The CEO stated that the verification process will have checks and balances across all the steps of the verification process, while involvement of the political parties will also be there in the process through the Booth Level Agents (BLAs). Awareness drives and special camps will be held to help the voters in the submission of the their enumeration forms.
The exercise is going to cover all the voters aged 18 years and above as of the qualifying date of October 1.

Notably, more than 13,000 BLOs will be conducting the house-to-house enumeration across the city, while every voter whose name appears on the electoral list will be handed over enumeration forms in duplicate.

The draft electoral list, as per the schedule will be published on August 5, and later the final electoral roll after the SIR will be released on October 7.
The period for claims and objections will be from August 5 to September 9 and the notice phase and the disposal of the claims and the objections is going to be between August 5 to October 3.

He shared that help desks have been set up at district level which are going to provide assistance to the public during the exercise.
Delhi’s SIR is taking place under the Phase-III of the exercise, this part is being conducted in a phased manner across sixteen states and three Union Territories.
According to Kumar, genuine voters will have to fill out and submit the enumeration forms, and in case of any discrepancy, the ERO will publish a draft electoral roll, and after that notices will be issued regarding discrepancies.
