On the occasion of the Law Alumni Reunion at Hooghly Mohsin College, Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court T S Sivagnanam attended as the chief guest. He was accompanied by Justices of the Calcutta High Court Tirthankar Ghosh and Bivas Patnaik, vice-chancellor of Judicial Science University Mrinal Kanti Chakraborty, and other eminent judges.
Chief Public Prosecutor of Hooghly District Shankar Ganguly, professors and principles of the law department of Hooghly Mohsin College were also present, along with Hooghly district magistrate Mukta Arya, Chandannagar Police Commissioner Amit P Javalgi, additional superintendent of police (Hooghly Rural) Kalyan Sarkar, lawyers and alumni.
Chief Justice Sivagnanam said: “I am truly impressed to visit this college for the second time. When I came here a year ago, I learnt about the traditions of the alumni and the glory of the college’s law department. Today, I am reliving those memories. The new generation must come forward responsibly to shape the current perspective and future direction of legal education. The importance of practising law and the responsibility of lawyers towards society must also be recognised.”
The Chief Justice noted that alumni of Hooghly Mohsin College are currently serving in the Calcutta High Court as well as in various parts of the country, reflecting the college’s proud legacy. He further remarked that West Bengal, being the cultural centre of India, needs no introduction regarding its rich traditions.
