A fresh landslide struck NH-10 at Selfie Danra early this morning, cutting off traffic on the crucial Sevoke–Gangtok route. Tonnes of earth and boulders tumbled down the hillside shortly after dawn, leaving the road completely blocked.

The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and the Kalimpong district administration rushed in earth-movers and rock-cutting machines to clear the debris. However, continuous rockfall and unstable slopes slowed the operation, pushing restoration efforts well into the afternoon.

Authorities have suspended all traffic through Selfie Danra until the stretch is declared safe. Heavy vehicles remain banned, while light vehicles are being diverted through alternate routes via Lava and Teesta Bazaar. The District Superintendent of Police has urged commuters to avoid the area and use only the designated diversions.

The incident adds to the monsoon woes in the region, where landslides have repeatedly hit vulnerable points such as Selfie Danra, Birik Dara, Kali Jhora, and Seti Jhora. With more rain forecast, clearance teams have been told to work round-the-clock. Travellers have been advised to check NHIDCL updates before setting out, as fresh disruptions remain a strong possibility.
