The Siliguri District Hospital (SDH) will start blood separation units and blood platelet aggregation units to fight vector-borne diseases, a meeting of the Rogi Kalyan Samity (RKS) decided here on Monday. Participants of the meeting also decided to ease the admission process for patients in the hospital during emergencies and start the “computerized admission process” in February, hospital authorities said.

RKS Chairman Rudra Nath Bhattacharya said that the dengue outbreak last year claimed many lives and that they have taken steps to overcome such situations in the future. “With a view to curbing vector-borne diseases in Siliguri, a blood separation unit and a blood platelet aggregation unit will start functioning from February.

We are also starting computerized admission of patients that will function 24 hours. Earlier, admissions were done manually, while it was difficult to maintain records during late nights,” Dr Bhattacharya said. The SDH has also come up with a new facility where doctors concerned interact with the patients’ relatives.

“We have decided to allot a dedicated interaction between patients’ relatives and doctors from Monday to Saturday twice a day from 12:30 to 1:30 in the afternoon and 7:30 to 8:30 in the evening. The motive is to let the patients’ relative get regular updates,” Dr Bhattacharya said.

The meeting also discussed security at the hospital, with an additional 16 closed circuit TV cameras to be installed by next month along with recruitment of security guards for maximum vigilance. “The hospital has 16 CCTV cameras installed at present, while 16 more will be installed soon, along with recruitment of 13 security guards. Presently, we have 23 guards to monitor the hospital premises,” Dr Bhattacharya said.
