The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) Sikkim Pradesh on Tuesday marked ‘Badhai Diwas’ to celebrate the historic victory of the party in Assembly elections Northeastern states.

In a statement, the BJP said that a function to mark the victory was on Tuesday presided over by senior party leader and library in-charge Bhanu Bhakta Sharma and conducted by party General Secretary LR Gurung.

A majority of the members of the state unit were present on the occasion, while the gathering congratulated the “team of dynamic leadership” which made the victories possible in the North-East.

“It was a result of the strategy adopted by visionary national president Amit Saha and the tireless effort put in by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, National General Secretary Organisation Ram Mahdav, State in-charge Shree Sunil Deo Dhar, Hemant Biswa Sharma and of course BJP state president of Tripura, Biplab Das,” the press release said.

It added that the meeting also paid tributes to individuals who laid down their lives to bring about this situation. “It was not an easy task to form a BJP government in states like Tripura, which was once the fort of communists, and vulnerable Nagaland, where underground outfits are still active and regional sentiments are at their peak.

We do not consider it the victory of the BJP alone, but a national victory. After 70 years of independence, the present leadership of the BJP has not only succeeded to form governments in the sensitive and vulnerable North-East states, but has also succeeded in bringing them to the national mainstream,” the statement added.

Tuesday’s meeting also adopted some resolutions to be submitted to BJP national president, Mr Saha. “We the party workers of Sikkim BJP and the people of Sikkim at large are encouraged by the historic victory in the North-East.

We are suffering from suppression of regional castiest communal and corrupt forces since its merger with India in 1975. Our forefathers merged our kingdom with the hope to have democracy, which ironically has become a distant dream for us,” he added.

“People of Sikkim as a whole want to associate themselves with the BJP and form their own government at their own strength under your guidance and dynamic leadership.

We want our dream to live in a democracy to be realized. We request the National President to adopt the same strategy in Sikkim too which he adopted to throw out the communist misrule of 25 years in Tripura,” one of the resolutions states.

“We expect an immediate visit of senior leaders here to have a long interaction with party workers and plan a strategy for forming a BJP government in Sikkim in 2019 elections,” another resolution says.

“We will observe the BJP foundation day on 6 April in a grand manner under the guidance of senior leader RB Subba,” the release said.
