Punjab expected to procure 132 lakh metric tons wheat: Chief Secretary
Punjab is expected to procure 132 lakh metric tons wheat, out of which 17.14 lakh metric tons have already been acquired, Chief Secretary Anurag Verma said on Sunday.
Most parts of Haryana and Punjab reeled under severe heatwave conditions on Tuesday with temperatures soaring past the 44-45 degrees Celsius mark at several places.
Hisar and Narnaul towns in Haryana sizzled at 45.5 and 45.3 degrees, making them the hottest places in the region.
Bhiwani (44.8 degrees), Karnal (44) and Ambala (43.3) also experienced the heat wave.

Chandigarh recorded a high of 43 degrees. The temperature recorded at the airport was 43.8 degrees.
The maximum temperatures were four to six degrees above average, Met department officials said here.
Amritsar city in Punjab recorded a high of 41.5 degrees, while Ludhiana and Patiala cities were hotter with highs of 43 and 44 degrees respectively.
Met department officials said heat wave conditions would prevail over the region in the coming days and the weather would remain dry.
