Services remain suspended in Lok Nayak Hospital

The outpatient department (OPD) services and routine surgeries remained suspended at Lok Nayak Hospital in the Capital on Wednesday, with the staff continuing its protest in support of after two resident doctors who were allegedly thrashed by a patient’s attendants and relatives.The government hospital is governed by Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC).

The Lok Nayak Hospital sees a footfall of nearly 5,000 patients in OPD daily. Also, 100 major and minor surgeries are performed there every day.

“In Tuesday’s incident, one doctor suffered a severe injury on his nasal bone while another doctor’s hand was injured,” said general secretary of Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) of MAMC Dr Ankur Sharma.

The protesting doctors have demanded prompt and stern action against the assailants that shall act as a deterrent to future assaults on doctors.

Sharma sought that “the process of registering institutional FIR such incidents should be swift and smooth.”

He also demanded strict compliance of one patient, one relative policy ~ which has been in place but rarely followed due to various reasons.
