Serial rapist and murderer M Jaishankar, who was notoriously known as “Psycho Shankar”, allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison on the outskirts of Bengaluru, police said.
According to the media reports, he was allegedly involved in more than 30 rape cases and 15 murders.
He slit his throat with a shaving blade at around 2 AM, they said, adding that the incident came to light when night beat guards were on their rounds near his cell.
A Kannada movie named ‘Psycho Shankar’ based on Jaishankar’s life was made in 2017.
Shankar was examined by the prison duty doctor and he advised officials to rush him to a government hospital. He was shifted to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru where he was declared dead around 5.10am.
Jaishankar, who made a sensational escape from the high security central prison on September 1, 2013, was arrested a couple of days later.
Considered a psychopath, he was imprisoned following his conviction in a case relating to trespass, rape and murder.
Jaishankar had committed crimes in both Karnataka and neighbouring Tamil Nadu.
He hailed from Kanyapattanam Konasamudra village in Tamil Nadu’s Salem district.
