Remembering Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th birth anniversary on Friday, Delhi Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh said that the great leader not only strengthened India’s unity, but also transformed the cooperative movement into a people’s movement.
Inspired by Patel’s ideals, the country took firm steps towards self-reliance, collective growth, and rural development, the Delhi minister said, as he paid tributes to the country’s first home minister, while taking part in a ‘Run for Unity’ event in South Delhi.
He emphasised that Patel believed the real strength of the nation lies in its villages and farmers, and that cooperation is the most powerful means to organise this strength.
Singh mentioned that under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government is working with the spirit of cooperation to ensure inclusive development across all sections of society.
By empowering farmers, workers, youth, self-help groups, and cooperative societies, the national capital is advancing rapidly towards the goal of self-reliance, he added.
The Delhi minister hailed the steps taken by the central government to connect farmers, backward and marginalised communities with the cooperative sector, empowering them through self-employment under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.
The minister added that Patel played a historic role in uniting the country, and his vision, decisive leadership, and organisational ability established India as a strong and indivisible nation.
A large number of students, social organisations, local residents, members of the Municipal Standing Committee, and Municipal Councillor Jagmohan Mahalawat were present on the occasion.
