Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision allowing the use of green firecrackers in Delhi during the upcoming Diwali festival.
He said that his party has consistently maintained that use of such firecrackers on Diwali doesn’t lead to a spike in the pollution levels in the winter season.
He said that there are many other significant causes, and alleged that the previous government deliberately blamed firecrackers for the increase in pollution.
Sachdeva claimed that this permission to burst green firecrackers on Diwali is the result of people’s “correct voting decision” in the elections.
The BJP leader alleged that the previous Kejriwal government intentionally presented such data that ultimately led the Supreme Court to impose a ban on bursting firecrackers during Diwali in recent years.
However, this year, the present Delhi government presented the factual situation before the top court and secured the permission for bursting green firecrackers on Diwali, he said.
Earlier in the day, the apex court allowed the use of green firecrackers during Diwali. However, the permission is subject to certain restrictions, with regard to the days and timings of use and their sale.
