A 30-year-old woman drowned after jumping into an open drain in Rohini, located in the northern part of the city, on Friday evening, officials said.

According to police, the incident came to light after two calls were received at KNK Marg police station—one at 4:11 pm and another at 4:19 pm, reporting that a woman had fallen into a drain near JND College in Sector 15 and was drowning.

“Acting on the information, a team was dispatched to the Sector 15/16 dividing road, where callers claimed to have seen the woman jump into the drain around 4:10 pm,” an officer said.

The fire brigade was called, and after hours of searching, the woman’s body was recovered from Haiderpur Water Treatment Plant.

She was found wearing a red printed salwar suit, red glass bangles, and a mangalsutra. Police said there were no visible external injury marks on her body.

The woman, believed to be between 30 and 35 years old, was taken to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital. Efforts are underway to establish her identity.

Further investigation is in progress.
