The Red Fort Metro station in New Delhi reopened to passengers on Saturday, following a four-day closure caused by the Delhi blast incident earlier this week, an official confirmed.
According to the police, they have reopened only two of the four gates providing access to the metro station. From Saturday onwards, Delhi Metro passengers can enter the Lal Qila Metro station exclusively through Gate No. 2 and Gate No. 3.
However, Gate No. 1 and Gate No. 4 will stay closed until further notice from the authorities.
A recent UNI report states that the road near the site of the car bomb blast has now been reopened to traffic. Traffic had been suspended earlier this week following the incident.
Notably, on Monday, an explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi took the lives of 14 people, while over 25 were severely injured. The blast is believed to have been part of a carefully orchestrated plan to carry out “serial blasts” across multiple locations in four cities in India.
Dr Umar Nabi, the main accused, along with his accomplices—Dr Muzammil Shakeel, Dr Shaheen Shahid, and Dr Adeel, all of whom have connections to previous terror cases—are facing charges in the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, the Delhi Police issued a detailed travel advisory, urging people to arrive at railway stations, metro stations, and airports well ahead of schedule due to heightened security measures in the city following the blast.
“In light of the increased security measures in the national capital, all passengers are advised to arrive at railway stations, metro stations, and airports well ahead of time,” stated Joint Commissioner of Police Milind Dumbre in an official notice.
Passengers travelling by train are advised to arrive at least one hour before their scheduled departure. For daily Delhi Metro commuters, the police recommend reaching the station 20 minutes ahead of their intended train time.
For air travellers, the Delhi Police advise arriving at the airport at least three hours before the scheduled flight.
