Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal was detained on Wednesday when she, along with other members of the DCW, was going to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office to hand over letters supporting the ‘Rape Roko’ campaign.

“DCW chief was going to hand over 5.55-lakh letters to PMO India. She had even informed police and the PMO both. What a disgusting behaviour by Delhi Police,” AAP media coordinator Vandana Singh tweeted.

The letters were written by people to support the ‘Rape Roko’ movement initiated by DCW, demanding strong punishment to rapists of children below six months.

As per Indian Express news report, due to the Parliament session, Section 144 has been imposed in New Delhi district. Therefore, the protest was not allowed and they were detained. Maliwal and other protesters were taken to Mandir Marg police station and some have also been taken to Parliament Street police station.

The ‘Rape Roko’ movement was kickstarted by DCW Chief Maliwal after the alleged rape of eight-month-old baby in Delhi in January. For over a month, Maliwal has been visiting railway stations, police stations, and other areas at night to inspect women safety.
