Punjab panchayat poll candidates to undergo dope test

With Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Amarinder Singh making it mandatory for all government employees to undergo dope test, state’s panchayats and rural development minister, Tript Rajinder Bajwa, on Thursday announced to make the same mandatory for the candidates contesting in the forthcoming panchayat elections.

The minister said he has proposed mandatory dope test for the elections to 13,000 panchayats, zila parishad and panchayat samitis. The proposal would be put up in the coming Cabinet meeting.

The dope test would also cover women candidates. The minister said it would be right step to take the anti-drug movement to the village level. Meanwhile, Bajwa also underwent dope test on Thursday.
