After facing criticism over its decision to ask girl student to wear innerwears of specific colours, the Maeer’s MIT School in Pune decided to withdraw the directive on Thursday.

Enraged parents of the girl students had staged a protest outside the school on Wednesday.

According to media reports, the school had directed its girl students to wear innerwears of only white or skin colour. The authorities had also reportedly specified the length of the skirt to be worn by the girl students. The school administration has also restricted the students from using the washroom other than the specified time.

Withdrawing its directive, the school said in a statement, “The instructions given about school uniforms in the school diary were not meant to hurt the sentiments of any person or group. It was taken in the students’ interest. The concerned instructions and school diary are being recalled.”

Earlier on Thursday, the parents said the teachers sent a note in the diaries of girl students mentioning all the new rules and asked the students to get it signed by parents.

Executive director of MIT Group of Institute Suchitra Karad Nagare had claimed that the school’s intent behind all the changes was “very pure”.

“The intention to give such specific directives in the school diary was very pure. We had some experiences in the past which made us take this decision. We did not have any hidden agenda,” ANI quoted Nagare as saying.

If the reports are to be believed, the school had even mentioned about the actions to be taken against the student and parents if they failed to abide by the changes being made at the school.
