Promoting creativity, innovation among students for brighter India

Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan, hosted an inter-school science contest to boost creativity and innovation among students and promote budding scientists for a better future of the country.

“For a sustainable world, we need dissident scientists who have the courage to question and accept their mistakes,” said Professor Shiv Vishwanathan, Vice Dean (Institution Building), Centre for the Study of Science, Society and Sustainability, O.P. Jindal Global University, who presided over the function.
The contest was held in the capital on Thursday on the occasion of the 13th Dr AK Saha Memorial Young Scientists Experimental Project. The annual project was organised to inculcate a spirit of enquiry and objectivity amongst budding scientists. This year the theme of the contest was “Ideate–Innovate–Create–for a better future”.
“The theme Ideate–Innovate–Create–for a better future is central to the idea of the longevity of our planet and the future of Science belongs to the youth,” school Principal Dr Jyoti Bose said in her address.
Two events were held as a part of the contest – Investigatory Project Competition and the Science Quiz. Eighteen leading schools of Delhi participated in the preliminary round of the contest out of which 10 schools were selected to participate in the final round.
The Investigatory Projects were adjudged by Prof. Sher Ali, Senior Staff Scientist, Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences, Jamia Milia Islamia, Dr. Anupama Singh, Scientist and Head, Chemical Division, IARI, Pusa, Dr. Avanish Kant, Senior Hydrologist, Consultant – World Bank, Praveen Gosain, Regional Director – India, S.E. Asia & Australia, Corning Reactor Technologies, Corning Technologies India (P) Limited.
Springdales School, Pusa Road, was adjudged the overall winner of the AK Saha Memorial Trophy, and the Indian Science Congress Trophy instituted for innovation in Science for their project “Photocatalytic Rod”.
The project was initiated by former students of the school, Dr Abhijit Saha and Dr Prasenjit Saha, in the memory of their late father Dr AK Saha, Former Scientist at National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi.
