At the same time, considering the legacy of the stadium, the iconic clock tower will be conserved as a heritage structure.
Union Petroleum and natural gas Minister, Mr Dharmendra Pradhan proposed to upgrade the state government-run institute at Konark which imparts training in stone sculpture into an International Standard Skilling Institute.
In a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the Union Minister said the state government could cooperate to make the project successful. An International Standard Skilling Institute will not only help upgrading the traditional skill sets of the sculptors, but will also help in keeping alive Odisha’s ancient heritage.
The central government through one of its Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) i.e. Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has made substantial investment in order to enhance tourist facilities in Konark.

The Sun Temple in Konark, a UNESCO recognised site, is a popular tourist destination and also provides livelihood options and employment to the residents of the area.
Tourist facilities like parking bays and interpretation centres constructed by the IOCL, will contribute towards providing international standard tourist infrastructure for the benefit of tourists visiting the historic monument,noted Pradhan.
The temples of Odisha are living testimony to the ancient cultural heritage of this land, which are a tribute to the talent of Odia sculptors. There are many renowned sculptors, who are descendants of this unique skill sets and who are also presently engaged in this profession.
It is imperative on the part of the Government to take all measures to keep alive this tradition, said Pradhan. He urged upon the Chief Minister to extend the cooperation of state government so as to make the project successful.
