Days after Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s former Mayor Firhad Hakim’s then Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Kalicharan Banerjee was arrested in the Taratala warehouse collapse incident, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) from the city police paid a visit to his residences in Chetla and Howrah.

Police sources say, searches were conducted at Banerjee’s room and home office. Cops also questioned his family members. The Kolkata Police investigation team meticulously examined numerous files and documents during the search operation.

Kalicharan also known as ‘Kali’ had served as the OSD to Hakim when the building plan of the Taratala warehouse was sanctioned.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had earlier referred to Kalicharan Banerjee while speaking at the assembly and alleged that he was involved in corruption and had virtually taken control of the Kolkata civic body.
Adhikari said that Hakim had allegedly delegated excessive powers to Kalicharan, allowing him to function as a parallel authority.

“We know what has happened in Kolkata Municipal Corporation. If Kali is caught, all information will come out. No plan gets approved without Kali. Kali is constructing Trinamool Bhavan near the Bypass. An FIR has been lodged and action is being taken,” the Chief Minister said while speaking at the assembly.
