While the police confirmed the presence of the ISIS terror group in Kashmir, some miscreants in the Hajin village in Bandipura on Tuesday buried the body of an unidentified Pakistani terrorist without handing it over to the police.

The terrorist on Monday had received injury during an encounter with security forces in the Bon Mohalla locality of Hajin and succumbed on Tuesday in the village where he is believed to have been given shelter by some locals.

Police said that during search operations no body was recovered in the area as the two terrorists holed there managed to escape amidst stone pelting at the security forces. However, on Tuesday, police came to know about the death of the injured terrorist and a request was made to villagers to hand over the body to police but it was carried in a procession and buried by some miscreants.

The police is ascertaining the identity of the terrorist and has warned that legal action has been initiated against the people who led the protest and instigated the public.

The A’maq, which is the publicity wing of the ISIS, on Monday claimed its presence by uploading picture of the service rifle that it claimed its terrorists had snatched from slain constable Farooq Ahmed who was on guard duty at the residence of a Hurriyat leader Fazal-ul-Haq Qureshi on Sunday. The outfit warned that “a war has just begun”.

The state police for the first time on Tuesday confirmed presence of ISIS when the DGP SP Vaid told a TV channel “it is now clear that the attack was carried out by ISIS and it is indeed a worrying sign”.

Vaid said while the presence of the outfit was not “substantial”, it was “indeed a worrying sign, because ISIS foothold in Kashmir will have a different meaning”.

The ISIS had earlier claimed its presence in the valley, but the authorities had denied it. ISIS flags had surfaced in Kashmir and particularly during stone pelting downtown Srinagar.

The body of a terrorist identified as Mugeeb was wrapped in ISIS flag when he was killed in an encounter at a checkpoint in outskirts of Srinagar in mid-November.

Governor NN Vohra flew to Srinagar on Monday and reviewed the security situation with top brass of the Army, CRPF, Police and intelligence agencies.

He discussed about the activities of terrorists in the hinterland and the strategy to counter them.

Vohra spent almost the whole day meeting senior echelons in the security apparatus.

He received extensive briefing from Lt Gen AK Bhat, GoC 15 Corps, about the situation along the entire Line of Control and activities of the various terrorist groups in the hinterland.

Governor received similar briefings from SP Pani, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Division, and Ravideep Singh Sahi, Iinspector General (IG) CRPF. He also held discussions with the chiefs of Central Intelligence Agencies (CIA).
