Police chief of Kathua district shifted

Transfer comes days after President Ram Nath Kovind during his visit here earlier this week expressed anger over such a heinous crime against the child.

Following countrywide condemnation of the alleged rape-murder of a minor girl in the Kathua district, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday shifted the police chief of the district M Suleman Choudhary and appointed Shridhar Patil in his place.

Transfer of the Kathua district police chief comes soon after President Ram Nath Kovind during his visit here earlier this week expressed anger over such a heinous crime against the child.

Choudhary has been shifted to the insignificant post of AIG, CIV, in the police headquarters.

Patil, who has replaced him, is at present Superintendent of Police, Kulgam, in South Kashmir.

The government has also made changes in the police set up of the South Kashmir that recently witnessed several encounters of security forces with terrorists in which some civilian stone-pelters were also killed.

Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar, police chief of Shopian district, has been shifted to Kupwara in North Kashmir and Shailendra Kumar Mishra, commandant of 2nd Battalion of IRP, appointed in his place in the strategic district of Shopian.

Shamsher Hussain, SP Kupwara, has been shifted as Commandant of the 13th Battalion of JKAP.

Harmeet Singh Mehta, SP Sopore, has been sent to Kulgam as SP in place of Patil, and Javid Iqbal, SP Police Control Room, Srinagar, has been posted as SP, Sopore.
