After she urged people to give her the panchayats in Malda district, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee this morning demanded the same from her district leaders who had gone to see her off at the Malda airport at English Bazaar.

As she boarded the helicopter to head for South Dinajpur, she added that she would soon visit Malda once again. “Work tight because panchayats are a must,” the Trinamul supremo told her leaders as she departed for the neighboring district in the presence of Moazzem Hossain, the district president of the party, three working presidents– Dulal Sarkar, Nihar Ranjan Ghosh and Sumala Agarwal, and the president of the youth wing of the party, Amlan Bhaduri.

The female wing president Chaitali Sarkar, along with the former state minister from the district, Sabitri Mitra, was also present there. In the public meeting held here yesterday, Miss Banerjee had urged the people to give her people’s representative from the district, which according to her, is necessary to carry out various projects and schemes for the common people.

According to political observers here, the TMC in Malda has taken up two very significant changes or steps- -to bring about a flurry of development activities in the so-called backward district of Malda, and a silent change brought about in the party organizing mode here.

According to party sources, the observer of the TMC in the district, Subhendu Adhikary, met Mr Hossain, Mr Sarkar, Mr Ghosh and Mr Bhaduri prior to the panchayat booth level workers’ convention, and after the event, the party leaders themselves claimed their convention to be a grand success, given the presence of a huge number of people.

Political observers here said developmental work on one hand and a change in the party organization on the other have led the party supremo to hope for a very good show of the party in the coming polls.
