In a move to curb the growing drug abuse in rural parts of the national capital, the Delhi Police South West district and Sakal Panchayat Palam 360 Khap on Saturday organised an anti-drug awareness campaign at the Dada Dev Mandir situated in South West Delhi’s Palam village.
Speaking at the event, Surendra Solanki, Chief of the Palam 360 Khap, said the youth of Delhi’s rural belt is increasingly falling prey to drugs, which needs urgent attention from the authorities to save their future. “We have to save our villages, our society from this destruction, and every family has to become aware and become a part of this campaign against narcotics,” Solanki said.
The sentiment echoed among the attendees of the event, which drew huge crowds of villagers from Palam and the adjoining areas who joined Solanki and Delhi Police officials in the drive against drug abuse. According to the members of the Khap, the entire Panchayat and village community stood in support of the campaign, “Ek Prayas Nasha Mukt Bharat ki Aur.”
Senior officials of the police stressed the need to keep children away from drugs to secure the future of youth. While noting that the administration and the police are constantly making efforts to curb the drug menace, he sought active participation from the community to make the mission of Drug-free Rural Delhi a success.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government launched multiple awareness drives to curb the growing use of narcotic substances in urban spaces, including college campuses. Last week, Delhi Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh urged educational institutions in the national capital to set up anti-drug clubs in the Central Delhi district. He expressed the hope that these efforts would eventually lead to the declaration of “drug-free campuses.”
