A teenager, who is out on bail in a double murder case, has been apprehended for allegedly stabbing a 15-year-old boy to death in north east Delhi’s Seelampur, police said on Friday.
According to the police, the juvenile, around 13 to 14 years of age, has been out on bail for the past three to four months in a double murder case lodged last year in Narela Industrial Area.
“On Thursday evening, the boys clashed after encountering each other, and the accused stabbed him to death with a knife,” said a senior police officer, adding that they reported that the first call regarding the incident reached the Seelampur station at around 8:27 pm on Thursday.
On reaching the spot, a police team found that the victim had already been taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra (JPC) Hospital, where the doctors attending to him pronounced him dead.
Following the incident, the victim’s family staged a protest, prompting the police to deploy a large police force in the area. A senior officer engaged with the demonstrators to pacify them, sources reported.
The distraught father of the deceased, Tejpal, said, “He was my son, a mechanic who worked right in front of the Seelampur metro station. He was killed a few steps away from the police post. This is the tenth or eleventh murder here — one happens almost every two months.”
“The juvenile has been apprehended and the weapon used in the crime, a knife, has been recovered,” the officer mentioned.
The crime team, as well as the forensic experts, were called to the crime scene to conduct an inspection of the spot and collect evidence.
Police teams are currently investigating the case to ascertain the motive behind the attack and are also questioning the eyewitnesses to the incident, the officer added.
