After a citywide cleanliness campaign along the Yamuna, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said the river’s revival would depend on continued cooperation between citizens and the government.
Referring to the Sunday’s mega clean-up drive conducted across 28 ghats, Gupta said people from all age groups participated in the initiative and contributed to cleaning activities along the riverbanks.
“From children to senior citizens, every section of society participated actively in the campaign,” the Chief Minister said.
She said the government is also putting in place separate arrangements for the disposal of plastic waste, puja material and damaged idols collected from the riverbanks.
Gupta stressed that cleaning the Yamuna is a long-term exercise and can succeed only through sustained public involvement.
“Our Yamuna, our responsibility,” she said, adding that the campaign would continue in the coming days.
Thousands joined cleanliness drive across 28 ghats
On Sunday, Gupta led the ‘Maa Yamuna Riverbank Cleanliness Drive’ at Yamuna Ghat as thousands of volunteers, BJP workers, ministers and party leaders participated in sanitation efforts across multiple locations along the river.
The campaign was carried out simultaneously at 28 ghats across Delhi.
According to the Chief Minister, volunteers began work from early morning and took part in shramdaan to clean riverbank areas.
Union Minister of State and Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra joined the drive at Yamuna Ghat, while Delhi minister Parvesh Verma participated at ITO Ghat.
BJP MP Swati Maliwal took part in the campaign at Kalindi Kunj. BJP MP Yogender Chandoliya and several MLAs, councillors and party workers also joined the exercise.
Harsh Malhotra said voluntary organisations across Delhi participated in the initiative at multiple locations.
The cleanliness campaign was organised as part of efforts to improve conditions along the Yamuna riverbanks and saw coordinated activities at Yamuna Ghat, ITO Ghat, Kalindi Kunj and other locations.
