Three judges of the Orissa High Court cycled from Judicial Academy Complex in Cuttack to the court premises, sending symbolic message on fuel conservation amid the global oil crisis triggered by escalating West Asia conflict. Justice Savitri Ratho, Justice V Narasingh and Justice Sibo Sankar Mishra made the trip in summer heat, forgoing their official vehicles to demonstrate the need for austerity and fuel-saving during the ongoing energy uncertainty.
Virtual benches, hybrid staff roster for summer vacation
The Orissa High Court announced that all Vacation Benches will function in virtual mode during Summer Vacation 2026 to minimise physical movement and ensure efficient institutional functioning.
A notice issued by the Registrar General on Monday directed all Superintendents to prepare roster arrangements ensuring at least 50 per cent of staff remain physically present in offices at all times.

Employees not required to attend in person must stay reachable during office hours via telephone, mobile and electronic means, and may be called in physically whenever directed.
Flexibility built into roster system
Superintendents who find the roster arrangement inadequate for branches where work is essential in nature may submit modified rosters to the Registrar (Judicial) for approval.
The notice advised that official meetings be held through virtual or online mode wherever practicable, with physical meetings permitted only in urgent and unavoidable circumstances. All officers have been directed to ensure timely disposal of official work without delay.
