On 25 March, the husband who was a driver by profession came home drunk and started misbehaving with his elder daughter. When she protested, he beat her up, police said.

Witnessing the violence, Singh’s wife and another daughter came to the rescue of the girl, however, Singh began thrashing his wife and the children, police said.

Police said, the wife and children could overpower Subash Singh and they tied his hands and legs. Later, his wife poured kerosene on him and set him ablaze.

Singh raised an alarm after he was set on fire and the neighbours rushed and doused the flames.

Singh was then taken to a nearby hospital and later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after his condition deteriorated.
