During an interaction with the residents of the Deoli area during a ‘padyatra’ on Saturday morning, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal gave strict orders to Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials that from “now onwards no one will have to pay for water tankers. DJB will send as many tankers as required. These tankers will give you water for free”.

The Chief Minister told the people, “I have learnt that you are facing the problem of water and are also buying water from private tankers. Some people have also complained that in some cases DJB tankers are also taking money. I have come here to solve these issues.”

Kejriwal asserted that “People are forced at times to buy water from private tankers. I have given strict orders to the Delhi Jal Board officials that from now onwards no one will have to pay for water tankers. The DJB will send as many tankers as required. He also assured the Deoli residents: “Very soon you will get clean drinking water in your taps. Orders have been passed to lay a water pipeline in the area. The CM was accompanied by the local MLA and senior DJB officials.

During his padyatra, Kejriwal saw two private borewells in the area. He ordered an immediate takeover of the private borewells by the DJB. He also asked DJB officials to file an FIR against the theft of water by such people and get them sent to jail.

The CM went “door-to-door” in the area and spoke to the people about the problems they were facing. He also gave on-the-spot directions to the officials to solve the problems of the residents. During his interaction with Deoli residents, Kejriwal also told them, “We have ordered for 60 new borewells. These will be done on a priority basis.”
