NIT Utsav 2018 begins

The NIT Rourkela Utsav-2018 began yesterday evening in the sprawling campus of the institute, which has bagged the second position amongst all the NITs. The Utsav is the annual festival is organised to celebrate the arrival of spring and when the students have less academic pressure on them.

“The three-day event is the most awaited one amongst the NITians here and also the participating colleges,” said convener of the event Samyak Das, a third year student of mining engineering. The event, is divided into many activities.

Along with academic activities like debating, essay completion, creative writing and others, it has also rock band performances by the NIT Rourkela band. “There will be a celebrity night on the concluding in which a singer from Bollywood Papon will perform for the audience,” said Das.

The event was inaugurated by K Benny Prasad and Director of the institute Animesh Biswas. Inaugurating the event Prasad said, “Such events definitely help the students to face the tough academic rigour of an institute like NIT and also helps them in finding the finer qualities amongst them.”

Director Biswas lauded the efforts of the students in organising such a huge programme without any hitch. “This gives them an opportunity to develop managerial and leadership qualities.” The first day saw a Kathak performance by Malabika Mitra. She performed solo and group performances, with her troupe.

At the same time a fashion parade, by the students of the institute, was held . The final attraction of the evening was live rock presentation by BAND NIT. It was a two hours’ presentation led by lead singer Amruta Vashini, a student of the institute.

Stand-up comedy by Bhubaneswar Comedians, a DJ Night by VH 1 Supersonic in collaboration with NIT Rourkela, Zephyrtone, where performers will perform electronic dance movement and bollywood singer Popan have all be lined up for the next four days.
