Nipah virus: Situation under control in the country, says JP Nadda

With Nipah virus claiming over 14 lives in Kerala, Union Health and Family Welfare minister JP Nadda on Tuesday said the situation is under control in the country and there is no need to panic over the issue.

There was also Nipah virus scare in Himachal Pradesh after dead bats were found in a school in Sirmaur, though the Health department clarified that samples sent for testing at the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune which were found negative.

Addressing media to brief about the achievements of four years rule on Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government, Nadda said the prices of the petroleum products are likely to come down in the coming days.

“Union government is working on long term strategy to reign in the prices of petroleum products in the country,” he said.

Detailing about the various development works carried by the NDA government in its four years rule, Nadda said India is transforming like never before and various initiatives have been launched for all round development of the country.

“Our policies are aimed at reaching poorest of the poor and around 31.52 crore bank accounts have been opened under Jan Dhan scheme,” he said, adding India accounted for 55 percent bank accounts opened globally.

Lauding the Union government’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme, he said the ambitious scheme is showing results as the sex ratio had increased in 104 districts of the country.

Further, the construction of toilets in schools has also resulted in increased enrolment of the girls in senior secondary schools across the country.

“The government has launched Ayushman Bharat scheme to provide health cover of Rs 5 lakh to poor for medical treatment and the Health ministry is vying for affordable healthcare for all,” he said.

Union Health and Family Welfare minister said the government is now aiming for wellbeing of general public and Health Wellness centres are being setup to provide free checkup to all at age of 30 years.

“The scheme aims at detecting various fatal diseases as cancer, tuberculosis, diabetes etc and ensure timely treatment,” he said.

Nadda said the Union government is according priority to the welfare of farmers which includes lowering the criteria for crop damage to 33 percent from earlier 50 percent for granting compensation.

In addition, MSP for crops have been increased significantly and 585 markets have been linked with ENAM which had benefitted 87.5 lakh farmers across the country.
