The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) was conducted peacefully and smoothly across Delhi on Sunday with special arrangements made by the Delhi government for the convenience of candidates and their parents getting an overwhelmingly positive response.
According to officials, nearly 45,000 candidates and parents benefited from the facilities provided at the cooling zones set up by the Delhi government.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the feedback received on the day of the examination clearly shows that the arrangements brought considerable relief to the students and their families.
She said her government introduced a new initiative of this kind in the country by extending special attention not only to the candidates but also their parents.
The Chief Minister said before the exam, efforts were made to ensure that no candidate faced problems commuting to the examination centre and that parents did not have to endure discomfort amid intense heat. With this objective, free travel in DTC buses was provided to all NEET candidates, and special cooling zones were set up outside all 97 examination centres across the city.
The cooling zones were equipped with seating arrangements, clean drinking water, ORS, shikanji, tea and first-aid facilities, CM said, adding that parents said these arrangements made long waiting hours more comfortable and convenient.
She said that the competitive examinations are an important milestone in the lives of young people. On such occasions, the government’s responsibility extends beyond administrative arrangements to understanding the genuine needs of the candidates and their families, providing them with all necessary support.
Appreciating the contribution of the district administration to the arrangements, the Transport Department, DTC, the Police, the Health Department and other concerned agencies and personnel involved in the successful conduct of the examination, Gupta said their coordinated efforts helped ensure better facilities.
